When I heard that Candace Bushnell was writing a new book it was one I couldn't resist to put on my to-read books. So I was totally pumped when it arrived in the mail, but sad that my to-read list was massive. So I had to add it to my bookshelf and then my sister, godmother, and sister-in law had taken it hostage so when I got my hands on it this weekend I had to read it. Let me to tell you that I'm a big Sex in the City fan (the show, and the book). The book was good, but the show was awesome. So I was a little unsure of how the story of teenage Carrie would roll over. The girls in my family raved about it. I wasn't anything but disappointed. It was an awesome way to get back into my chic-lit love that I had before paranormal (its been over a year since I've read any Chic Lit novels).
So on to the book. We all wished we could be either Carrie Bradshaw or even live her life and have friends like hers, and even maybe live in New York, drink Cosmos and call it a day. So who wouldn't want to know how Carrie became Carrie from New York. Carrie is now a small town girl who is dealing with the same romance problems as her future self in New York. Let me say that Candace Bushnell hit all the right spot with teenage drama and love. Even though the book is set in the eighties I still see teenagers dealing with the same old problems. Those being relationships, friends, sex, drugs, and family problems. I'm so sick and tired of books perceiving teenage issues as mediocre and not showing us the actual issues that teenagers really face (I'm not saying that all books are like that, but a lot are). I graduated from High school not to long ago and being raised in the city I saw all these issues happening right in front of my eyes, but I have never read about them, and actually being able the feel for these people because I could feel there pain (instead of seeing only one side). Some people may think that Carrie is annoying at times, but I for once don't think this teenager is annoying, I think she is totally right.
The characters in this book were well thought out and you can kind of see the little bit of her current friends in then now. I have to say my two favorites are Walt and Mouse. Both awesome characters, but yet so different. Lali I always new something was up. Maggie the typical girl (a friend I think everyone has) the over reactor. Peter who I hated from the start whats up with the obsession with the populars anyways? Sebastian the bad boy I heart him, but not really! George the good guy that gets over looked yet he's is still dry. Donna La Donna you know with a name like that she could only be trouble, and thats exactly what she is. One thing I have to say before moving on. I hate those girls willing to take back a boyfriend even though he cheated its a bad idea and is plain stupid, I see that everyday. Another issue that happens everyday that I saw in this novel is that though the boyfriend cheat the girl still blamed herself (which happens in real life sad to say).
I really enjoyed the Carrie Diaries more so then the actual Sex in the City book. I don't know why, but I'm guessing its because you can actually see the Carrie from Manhattan being created, and seeing where she began. Like an example Carrie was always making a bold question after one of her great thoughts. Like it would go something like this "Friends who take friends boyfriends." I know it was a sucky attempt at Carrie, but I tried and hopefully you guys understand. I like that with those bold statements that start closer to the end you see Carrie the write begin. So in conclusion Candace has hit yet another soft spot with yet another well written book which make those hard core Carrie fans want more?? Maybe making Carrie Diaries a movie??
This book was everything thing I had hoped for. My favorite part in the book is the last sentence, weird but here it is: "Samantha Jones" I asked. Thats it isn't it great. It means the beginning I love it, even though its the end of the novel Hehehe. Hope you enjoy this book as well.
