The Lightning Thief By: Rick Riordan Book Review

Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school...again. And that's the least of his troubles. Lately, mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy's Greek mythology textbook and into his life. And worse, he's angered a few of them. Zeus's master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect.

Now Percy and his friends have just ten days to find and return Zeus's stolen property and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the true thief: he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves.
(Summary Thanks to Goodreads)

Percy Jackson is a troubled twelve year old boy struggling to stay in a school. Percy can't seem to stay out of trouble he seems to keep finding himself in trouble. The last boarding school was Yancy Academy which was a school for kids who were troubled, but lets say that Yancy didn't last long. Things weren't horrible, but they did turn upside down when Percy in sixth grade went on a class field trip to Manhattans Metropolitan Museum of Art. The reason for the trip was that the student were learning about Greek and Roman Mythology. This is when the story begins! I was a bit hesitant to read a child's novel (I found this book in the Kids 9-12 section). This wasn't what I expected I was thinking that this book would be a breeze and very child like. It was anything but a breeze this book was like a tornado of fun. I really enjoyed this novel, a lot... I can't explain how much. So let me try. The book that started my addiction to reading was Harry Potter and when I saw The Lightning Thief on an end-cap of my favorite books store located right beside Harry Potter I had to check it out. If you have read Harry Potter then you know that is would be difficult to top the books creativity, but The Lightning Thief was pretty close. If I could compare it I would say Harry Potter mixed with the Greeks and Mythology minus the Wizardry.

I have to give Rick Riordan an applause for having a wonderful imagination, and thinking of totally unique characters and also book settings (example the Empire State Building). So now on to the Characters; Percy a boy who always thought he was being picked on by the world. He had a part of sympathy from me straight from the start you just wanted to scream at everyone for blaming him for everything. Grover, Percy best friend, Guardian and my Favorite character he may seem timid but don't let those feet fool you. He's tough like Goat's horns. Then you have Annabeth who is Percy's opposite and is suppose to be his sworn enemy are a great pair and couldn't be more alike (other then Annabeth has manners, and she respect her elders). Mr. Brunner who was like me and saw all that Percy had to offer, and showing Percy he could do it and be something great. Mr. Brunner was like a father figure. Now the villains while being bad and all, they were the most creative and unique, but classic Greek all at the same time. My favorite evil person had to be Medusa!!! She always was creepy (this is what I mean by classic Greek).

This book was a very unexpected bundle of joy! I have seen the movie and it doesn't compare to The Lightning Thief the book. The movie is awesome, but they change the storyline up a bit! So I was actually wishing I read the book before watching the movie, but it depends on your preference. I have to say you can already see in this book that Rick Riordan has a great imagination and a wonderful smooth writing skills. This book is action pack and always has you guessing. This book is not predictable. At least I wasn't able to predict what happened and I'm usually good at that. I would recommend this book to anyone reader who like Harry Potter, Teens, or Readers who like YA fiction, and also fans of Mythology. The cover I wasn't a big fan I actually prefer the movie based cover better, but it isn't horrible.

My Blurb for this Novel: "Greek Mythology with a teen twist. A fun filled page turner that will always have you guessing who the true villain is. A serious at the same time funny must read."

I would Personally Rate this Book:

"The old ladies were not old ladies anymore. Their faces were still the same-- I guess those couldn't get any uglier-- but their bodies had shriveled into leathery brow hag bodies with bat's wings and hands and feet like gargoyle claws."

Thanks to Alyxandra Harvey's Blog I have found the Out for Blood cover and the description. I was dying for this information. I adore the Drake Chronicles. So if you haven't seen here it is:

Hunter Wild is the youngest in a long line of elite vampire hunters, a legacy that is both a blessing and a curse at the secret Helios-Ra Academy, where she excels at just about everything.
Thanks to her friendship with Kieran Black, Hunter receives a special invitation to attend the coronation of Helena Drake, and for the first time, she sees the difference between vampires that must be hunted and vampires that can become friends—or even more.
When students at the academy fall victim to a mysterious illness, Hunter suspects they are under attack from within. She will need someone she can trust to help her save the future of Helios-Ra . . . help that shockingly comes in the form of Quinn Drake, a drop-dead gorgeous vampire.
Who said senior year would be easy?

The Candidates (Delcroix Academy 1) by: Inara Scott

Dancia Lewis is far from popular. And that's not just because of her average grades or her less-than-glamorous wardrobe. In fact, Dancia's mediocrity is a welcome cover for her secret: whenever she sees a person threatening someone she cares about, things just...happen. Cars skid. Structures collapse. Usually someone gets hurt.  So Dancia does everything possible to avoid getting close to anyone, belieiving this way she can supress her powers and keep them hidden. But when recruiters from the prestigious Delcroix Academy show up in her living room to offer her a full scholarship, Dancia's days of living under the radar may be over. Only, Delcroix is a school for diplomats' kids and child geniuses--not B students with uncontrollable telekinetic tendencies.  So why are they treating Dancia like she's special? Even the hottest guy on campus seems to be going out of his way to make Dancia feel welcome. And then there's her mysterious new friend Jack, who can't stay out of trouble. He suspects something dangerous is going on at the Academy and wants Dancia to help him figure out what.  But Dancia isn't convinced. She hopes that maybe the recruiters know more about her "gift" than they're letting on. Maybe they can help her understand how to use it...But not even Dancia could have imagined what awaits her behind the gates of Delcroix Academy.

Night Runner By: Max Turner

For Zack Thomson, living in the Nicholls Ward isn't so bad. After his parents died, he developed strange and severe allergies, and the mental institution was the only place where he could be properly looked after. As strange as it was, it was home. He could watch as much television as he wanted; his best friend Charlie visited him often enough; and Nurse Ophelia--the prettiest no-nonsense nurse ever--sometimes took him bowling. Of course, that didn't mean he had it easy. His allergies restricted his diet to strawberry smoothies, and being the only kid at the hospital could get lonely. But it never once crossed Zack's mind to leave...until the night someone crashed through the front doors and told him to run. Now he's on a race for answers--about his past, his parents, and his strange sickness--even as every step takes him closer to the darkest of truths

Insatiable By: Meg Cabot Book Review

But her boss is making her write about them anyway, even though Meena doesn’t believe in them.

Not that Meena isn’t familiar with the supernatural. See, Meena Harper knows how you’re going to die (not that you’re going to believe her; no one ever does).

But not even Meena’s precognition can prepare her for what happens when she meets—then makes the mistake of falling in love with—Lucien Antonescu, a modern-day prince with a bit of a dark side . . . a dark side a lot of people, like an ancient society of vampire-hunters, would prefer to see him dead for.

The problem is, he already is dead. Maybe that’s why he’s the first guy Meena’s ever met that she could see herself having a future with. See, while Meena’s always been able to see everyone else’s future, she’s never been able look into her own.

And while Lucien seems like everything Meena has ever dreamed of in a boyfriend, he might turn out to be more like a nightmare.

Now might be a good time for Meena to start learning to predict her own future . . .

(Summary thanks to Goodreads)

What a book I don't even know where to start. First I have to say a lot of writers have been trying to attempt to write Paranormal Romance (as the genre is very popular) some authors have succeeded in versatile writing and others have failed. Meg Cabot succeeded, and you can tell she did her research on the subject.  Most historical references where are real which was an added bonus to making this storyline seem believable.

Waiting on Wednesday (17) The Iron Witch

"Waiting On Wednesday" is a weekly meme, which is being hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine, that shows off the books that you have been pining for there release, and we can't wait any longer, so I use this meme to settle the addiction temporarily, until we are able to own the book. So Join in.

So this weeks "can't-wait-to-read" selection is:

The Iron Witch By: Karen Mahoney
Freak. That's what her classmates call seventeen-year-old Donna Underwood. When she was seven, a horrific fey attack killed her father and drove her mother mad. Donna's own nearly fatal injuries from the assault were fixed by magic—the iron tattoos branding her hands and arms. The child of alchemists, Donna feels cursed by the magical heritage that destroyed her parents and any chance she had for a normal life. The only thing that keeps her sane and grounded is her relationship with her best friend, Navin Sharma.

When the darkest outcasts of Faerie—the vicious wood elves—abduct Navin, Donna finally has to accept her role in the centuries old war between the humans and the fey. Assisted by Xan, a gorgeous half-fey dropout with secrets of his own, Donna races to save her friend—even if it means betraying everything her parents and the alchemist community fought to the death to protect.
 (Summary Thanks to  Goodreads)

If anyone knows me well they know my favorite Paranormals are Vampires and Witches!! So with a title like this one I had to look into this novel. Sorry guys yet another Wow thats far from reach. Next week I'll try making it something maybe out next month.

Check it out!! Let me know what you think!!
